Frequently Asked Questions

What is a doula?

A doula is a trained professional who provides physical and emotional support to you and your partner during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period.  A doula may also provide support to the partner, family and friends.

A doula  does NOT perform clinical tasks,  diagnose medical conditions or give medical advice.

What about the partner's role when using a doula?

The partner's role in the birth is of utmost importance. The doula will provide partners with the tools to be able to provide support to the birthing person. This includes comfort techniques to assist with a safe and healthy delivery.

When should I hire a doula?

It's a good idea to start looking for a doula as soon as possible, with the goal of hiring someone by about week 20 of pregnancy. Doula's calendar can fill up quickly with repeat clients and word-of-mouth referrals. That said, it's never too late to hire a doula-even right up to your due date.
